Last chance to save Troy Davis from execution
Troy Davis is on death row in Georgia (US) for the murder of a police officer, and his execution is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21. According to Amnesty International, “No physical evidence links Troy to the crime. Seven out of nine witnesses on whose evidence he was convicted in 1991 have since changed or retracted their testimony, with some citing police coercion.” Davis’ conviction was based on eye witness testimony that has mostly been recanted. As the American Psychological Association points out, eye witness testimony is not reliable (read more here and here). There is too much doubt that Troy Davis was guilty of the crime, and Nobel Laureates and leaders from around the world have called for his clemency.
